Early March - Burkittsville Ruritan Country Butchering
(Fresh pork on sale at the Ruritan Community Center grounds, 500 East Main Street, Burkittsville) and Country Breakfast.(7 AM - 11 AM). Mid June-Local Childrens Fishing Derby (June 17th)-sponsored by the Burkittsville Ruritan Club and held at the town pond. June 14th- Burkittsville Ruritan Flag Day Celebration-co-sponsored by the Middletown Vally Republican Womens Club, the event usually falls on the Sat.proceeding Flag Day. Poems, recitations, songs and prayers contribute to the ceremony honoring the U.S. flag. Burkittsville Ruritan Community Center grounds. July 4th - parade and picnic- sponsored by town of Burkittsville. Parade and picnic usually fall on Sat. before (or on) the 4th. Residents dress up their cars, bikes, trikes, and even dogs in patriotic style, to walk down Main Street to the Burkittsville Ruritan Community Center, where a pot-luck picnic follows. Mid July - Annual Burkittsville Ruritan Club Carnival at the Ruritan Community Center grounds, 500 East Main Street, Burkittsville. Plenty of good food, games, rides and free nightly musical entertainment. Food stand opens at 5 PM, rides open at 7 PM. Plenty of free parking and free admission. Mid August- Hunter safety course at the Burkittsville Ruritan Club Community Center. Three evenings of classroom instruction from 6-9 p.m.and a safe firearms handling session on Saturday morning. Participants must attend the complete course and pass a written test to receive their official Maryland Hunter Safety card, required by law to purchase a Maryland hunting license. The German Reformed Church, at 3 East Main St. will be stocked full of used books, videos and prints. Proceeds benefit the SHMS mission to preserve Burkittsville's cultural heritage through the collection and preservation of historical objects and by aiding in historical research. South Mountain Heritage Society participates in a county-wide program by opening the German Reformed Church to the public and offering an evening of Victorian Christmas displays, musical entertainment and light refreshments. December-Town Caroling-residents are invited to partricipate in an old-fashioned caroling event, gathering at the Christmas tree at St. Paul Lutheran Church and proceed down Main Street, caroling. Song sheets are provided and refreshments are served afterwards in the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Parish Center. December-Holiday Country Kitchen and Craft Show.
